How We Work
We started with a simple observation: most furniture available today is designed for quick production and short lifespans. Wood gets covered in synthetic veneers. Joints get hidden behind staples and glue. The result looks fine for a few years, then falls apart.
Traditional furniture making follows different principles. You select wood based on its characteristics. You cut joints that interlock mechanically. You apply finishes that can be renewed. The process takes longer, but the furniture lasts decades instead of years.
Materials
We work primarily with oak, ash, walnut, and beech. These hardwoods are dense, stable, and age well. They can be sourced from managed forests within Europe, which reduces transport emissions and ensures supply chain transparency.
Softwoods like pine and spruce work for certain applications where weight matters more than hardness. We don't use particle board or MDF for structural components.
Construction Methods
We use mortise and tenon joints for frame connections. Dovetails for drawer construction. Finger joints for edge-to-edge panels. These methods create mechanical strength that doesn't rely entirely on adhesives.
Hardware gets used where it makes sense—drawer slides, hinges, leveling feet—but the primary structure holds together through joinery.
Finishing
Most pieces receive oil or oil-wax finishes. These penetrate the wood surface and protect against moisture without creating a plastic-like coating. They can be reapplied by the owner as needed.
Some applications require lacquer or polyurethane for higher durability. We discuss finish options during the design phase based on how the furniture will be used.
Process
Initial consultation covers measurements, function requirements, and budget range. We provide sketches or 3D renderings showing what the piece will look like in your space.
Once the design is approved, we source materials and begin construction. Timelines vary based on complexity and current workload, typically ranging from 4 to 10 weeks.
Delivery includes setup and installation if required. We provide care instructions specific to the finish used.
